First installed filter emptied out 5 gallons of water and steel had bad smell and taste bad. Remove filter and shook it up emptied out three more gallons and it’s became a little bit better no smell no bad taste. I’m thinking this was an old filter that’s been sitting for a long time.

We never ship used or previously opened filters to customers. The issue you described is typically caused by carbon fines or air trapped inside a new filter, which is why we recommend flushing the filter thoroughly after installation. In many cases, it can take up to 10 gallons of water to fully clear the system and eliminate any residual taste or odor. I’m glad to hear that after removing the filter, shaking it, and flushing additional water, the smell and taste improved. That is consistent with the normal flushing process. Nice, cost effective filter replacement. Have filters for the next two years. Clear instructions, easy to replace. Apparently my fridge did not have the small filter in it, so it was nice to put one in. The app recommended is weird as it is for drinking water in general, not just filter replacement. Just make a note of when you replaced and swap in 6 months. No need to download the app.
