Line up the ports on the filter with the ports on the filter cartridge holder, and gently insert the filter.

Slowly turn the filter to the right until it stops. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.

No. The GlacierFresh GFXWFE™ has a built-in RFID chip that communicates with your fridge's authentication system — the same way the OEM GE filter does. You won't see error messages, warning lights, or chip-read failures after installation.

NSF 42 certification means the filter has been independently tested and verified to reduce aesthetic impurities like chlorine, taste, and odor. The GlacierFresh GFXWFE™ is NSF 42 certified, meaning its chlorine reduction claims are backed by a third-party lab — not just the manufacturer's word.

Replace the GlacierFresh GFXWFE™ every 6 months or 300 gallons, whichever comes first. Your fridge's filter indicator light will typically turn red or orange as a reminder. Other signs it's time: slower water flow from the dispenser, or water that starts tasting or smelling off.

After installing the new filter, press and hold the "Reset Filter" or "Filter Reset" button on your fridge's dispenser panel for 3 seconds until the light turns green or goes off. The exact button location varies by model — check your fridge's user manual if you can't find it.

Not immediately — you should flush the filter first. Run 2–3 gallons of water (about 10–15 dispenser cups) through and discard it before drinking. This clears out any carbon fines or air pockets from the new filter. After flushing, the water is safe and ready to drink.

Slow flow right after installation is almost always caused by trapped air in the filter. Keep dispensing water continuously for 3–5 minutes to purge the air. If flow remains slow after flushing 2–3 gallons, make sure the filter is fully locked into place — it should click

It's normal for the Glacierfresh NSF 42 XWFE filter to have a slight metallic taste, activated carbon powder, or cloudiness in the first 1-2 gallons of water. This should disappear after rinsing 2-4 gallons. If the taste or particles persist, it usually indicates that the filter cartridge wasn't fully tightened.

Installation in my GE side-by-side took 30 seconds. Water tastes no different than when using the GE filter. For the price of one GE filter you get three of these. Yes, I was able to reset the ""Change Filter"" light on the control panel. Just hold the button for 3 seconds. Like the GE filter, you have to run a gallon or so of water through the filter to clear it.

Where have you been for last few years??? After paying through the nose for OEM GE XWFE filters I was about to give up on filters and just install a plug.
