What is coconut shell carbon, and is it better than regular activated carbon for water filters?

Coconut shell activated carbon is widely considered the highest quality carbon source for water filtration. Compared to coal-based carbon, coconut shell carbon has a higher surface area and more micropores, which means better adsorption of chlorine, taste, odor, and organic contaminants. Is buying a 3-pack of water filters worth it, or will they expire before I use them?

What does 'Triple Filtration Technology' mean — how does it work?

The GF-1000P uses a three-stage filtration process within the carbon block: first, a pre-filter layer captures larger sediment and rust particles; second, the coconut shell carbon block adsorbs chlorine, chemicals, and organic compounds; third, a post-filter layer catches any remaining fine particles before water reaches your glass. Will this filter leak after installation? I've had leaking issues with third-party filters before

Leaking from third-party filters is almost always caused by imprecise tolerances in the filter housing. The GlacierFresh GF-1000P is precision-engineered to match OEM dimensions exactly — the O-rings and housing geometry are designed for a watertight seal with no modifications. If you experience any dripping after installation, the most common fix is to remove the filter and reinstall it, ensuring it's fully twisted clockwise until it clicks firmly into the locked position.

Does this filter work with Kenmore refrigerators, or only LG?

It works with both. Kenmore refrigerators sold under part numbers 46-9980 and 9980 use the exact same filter as the LG LT1000P — Kenmore sources many of its refrigerators from LG. The GlacierFresh GF-1000P is a direct replacement for both brands with no modifications needed.

My LG fridge water dispenser is slow after installing the new filter — what's wrong?"

Slow flow after a new filter installation is almost always caused by trapped air in the filter. This is completely normal and easy to fix: continuously dispense water for 3–5 minutes to purge the air pocket. Also make sure to run and discard at least 2 gallons to flush the new filter before drinking. If flow remains slow after flushing, double-check that the filter is fully locked — a partially seated filter restricts water flow significantly. If the issue persists, contact our support team.

How do I reset the filter light on my LG refrigerator after replacing the filter?

After installing the new GF-1000P, press and hold the "Filter Reset" button on your fridge's control panel or dispenser for 3–5 seconds until the indicator light turns from red to green or turns off. On some LG models, the button may be labeled "Reset" or found inside the fridge near the filter housing. The fridge does not auto-detect a new filter — you must manually reset it every replacement cycle.
