What's the difference between LG LT1000P, LT1000PC, and LT1000PCS — are they interchangeable?

Yes — they are functionally interchangeable for replacement purposes. The LT1000PC and LT1000PCS are simply variants of the LT1000P with minor packaging or regional differences. The GlacierFresh GF1000P™ replaces all three (LT1000P, LT1000PC, LT1000PCS), as well as ADQ747935, MDJ64844601, and Kenmore 9980 / 46-9980.

How do I know if my LG fridge uses the LT1000P or the older LT700P filter?

The easiest way is to check the filter label on your current installed filter — it will say LT1000P or LT700P directly on it. You can also check your fridge's model number against LG's compatibility list. The LT1000P is used in most LG French door and side-by-side models made after 2017. If your model is on our compatibility list (e.g., LMXS30796D, LRFDS3016S, LFXC22526S, and 80+ others), the GF1000P™ is your filter.

How do I install the LG LT1000P water filter? Where is it located?

The filter is located inside the fridge in the upper left corner. Installation is tool-free:

1.Open the filter cover and twist the old filter counterclockwise to remove it.
2.Insert the GlacierFresh GF1000P™ and twist clockwise until it locks.
3.Run and discard 2 gallons of water through the dispenser to flush the filter.
4.Press and hold the "Filter Reset" button for 3–5 seconds to reset the indicator light.

Why does my LG fridge say 'Replace Filter' right after I installed a new one?

This means the filter indicator light wasn't reset after installation. Press and hold the "Filter Reset" button on your fridge's control panel for 3–5 seconds until the light changes from red to green (or turns off). The fridge doesn't automatically detect a new filter — you must manually reset it every time you replace it.

Is 200 gallons enough? The LG OEM filter says 200 gallons too — why less than other brands?

200 gallons is LG's specified capacity for this filter size and housing design — it's not a limitation of the GlacierFresh filter specifically. For a typical family of 4 using the water dispenser regularly, 200 gallons lasts approximately 5–6 months. We recommend replacing on the 6-month schedule regardless of gallon count to ensure consistent filtration performance.

Does this filter also work for the Kenmore 9980 and 46-9980?

Yes. The Kenmore 9980 and 46-9980 are the Kenmore-branded equivalents of the LG LT1000P — they use the exact same filter housing and design. The GlacierFresh GF1000P™ is a direct drop-in replacement for both Kenmore part numbers with no modifications needed.

Is a third-party LG water filter safe to use? Will it void my warranty?

Using a third-party filter does not void your LG refrigerator warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act — LG cannot legally require you to use only OEM filters. As for safety, the GlacierFresh GF1000P™ is manufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications. For added assurance, look for filters with NSF certification when making your selection.

My water tastes or smells strange after installing the new LG filter — what's wrong?

This is almost always resolved by a proper flush. Run at least 2 gallons (roughly 8–10 dispenser cups) through and discard before drinking. A slight carbon taste or cloudy appearance in the first few cups is completely normal — it's just residual carbon fines from the new filter media. If the taste or odor persists beyond the flush, ensure the filter is fully locked in place, as a loose filter can allow unfiltered water to bypass the carbon block.
